Re: Has anyone watched Birth Of The Beatles on amazon?

The problem is that all versions are originally from a VHS source with a resolution of only 320*482. Presumably Amazon used a better SD source (Betamax 625/576i maybe?). VHS should have the full vertical resolution of 576, it's only the horizontal resolution that is less (which doesn't matter as mu...

Re: Has anyone watched Birth Of The Beatles on amazon?

This is my copy which I recorded off the BBC in the mid 90s, its gone from video cassette to DVDr then ripped with handbrake. Hopefully it might be useful to someone to upgrade with. hxxps://we.tl/t-eCPpa7Ljp5 That's much appreciated, but do you have the actual DVD files (VOB files)? You don't need...

Re: cleaned up bbc tracks, opinions please

Good work on these, I have tried to remove this distortion myself but have had no luck in most cases. These recordings were all made on one machine which I believe was probably battery powered and when the input signal went even slightly over 0vu it completely overloaded the front end and you get th...

Re: 2024 "BS-Roformer" spectral algorithm - Has anyone used it?

They do seem to have reached a ceiling for the moment. The big jump was from Spleeter to Demucs3 but since then it's been pretty incremental. And none of them produce stems which are clean enough to be taken for original tape tracks. MAL seems to be able to do this although since that is a black box...

Re: Has anyone watched Birth Of The Beatles on amazon?

So I went back and had another crack at the audio. Now, the problem with this film for me even though I like it very much has always been the terrible singing. The noise the lead vocalist makes is something like what I'd imagine you'd get if you took someone, put a clothes peg on their nose, and the...

Re: Has anyone watched Birth Of The Beatles on amazon?

When was it on the BBC? For someone to make an mp4 they must have had to make a capture. What we need is an original tv capture at a high bitrate, then just slow it down to 23.976 and apply some dirt cleanup and colour correction. Somebody out there must have videotaped it and still has it. I have a...

Re: 2024 "BS-Reformer" spectral algorithm - Has anyone used it?

The title doesn't exactly inspire great confidence... "B.S." I tried it but as usual it's a case of swings and roundabouts. A lot of these new algorithms work really well on one type of music and not well on another. Demucs4 is rated the top algorithm but it is very hit and miss when...

Re: Has anyone watched Birth Of The Beatles on amazon?

That "smile" dvd is certainly mastered from a lower bitrate mp4 though. It is very blocky when it shouldn't be (you don't get blocking like that at 6mb/s). It'd be better if we could find the original mp4 share. Otherwise it is probably the best image, although somebody shared one a while ...

Re: What is it that keeps your interest in The Beatles alive?

The obvious mistake you make is comparing others' stuff with The Beatles. Every artist chooses their own aesthetics, as with presentation, so more obviously with the sound. The rock hierarchy (Beatles, Stones, lesser mortals) exists not for nothing :) most others are bound to stay on the lower step...

Re: Paul’s Original 1961 Höfner 500/1 Bass Guitar Has Been Found!

Thanks for the transcript. This story shares one thing in common with a lot of other mysteries: people always tend to imagine the most exotic scenarios populated by criminal masterminds, and that leads them astray. The truth is nearly always much simpler and closer to home. Sometimes as in this case...
