Re: The Beatles At The Beeb 1982 extended

I'd sure rather hear "Zub" than anything by The Lorne Gibson Trio, The Countrymen, Carter-Lewis And The Southerners or any number of the boring guests that PGTB featured! I had one of those "toy" phonographs, too. I remember playing outside in the backyard in 1964, with "Mee...

Re: Dr.Ebbet - what is the truth about his CD reissues?

Maybe this will help clarify things. I found an interview I did with him back in 2009 and he says: "Were all of the Ebbetts titles mastered from vinyl (as opposed to tape)? Well, in the early days, I did source almost primarily from vinyl. To be clear, when I say “the early days,” I mean the la...

Re: Dr.Ebbet - what is the truth about his CD reissues?

Give me some time and I'll get the test discs out of storage. Doc used many of my source albums, and the albums of many other longtime Beatles collectors. How do I know he used what was sent?? A tell tale teeny pop, an album with some inner groove distortion, etc... Doc had some nice gear back in t...

Re: Dr.Ebbet - what is the truth about his CD reissues?

The bottom scan looks like his work. The top one does not. I went into the basement and scavenged through boxes of CDs to try and solve the mystery of the missing "Collection of Oldies" CD. And, sure enough, there they were - both stereo and mono, as part of his "limited edition"...

Re: Dr.Ebbet - what is the truth about his CD reissues?

LR, I have almost all of original Ebbetts discs, which he sent me over the years as he was doing them. I went to look for his mono version of "A Collection Of Oldies" and found... and he doesn't seem to have done one, unless I lost it years ago when I ripped the collection (doubtful). That...

Re: Complete Recording Sessions NEW UPDATES (Vol. 12 available)

"Song For Mary Bee" is Donovan's "Peregrine" (from "Hurdy Gurdy Man") with added lyrics. In Donovan's autobiography, he says that George recorded an instrumental version of "Peregrine" while in India. This is presumably what he's singing to in his one-off audi...

Re: And I Love Her -Single Tracked Vocal

The extra guitar at the end has been looped, but I'm with you - I prefer the longer version as well.
(I'm assuming you're talking about the extended version on the U.S. "Rarities" album, not the early take on "Anthology").

Re: THE DECCA DILEMMA (Vols. 1-3)

I think if Pete's drums were excised from the recording and the timing tightened a little, it would definitely be more enjoyable for me. Funny, I thought the same thing when I was listening to it - the drumming is so distractingly bad that the music might be better without it. Hell, if having no dr...

Re: THE DECCA DILEMMA

Lovely. I had much the same reaction I had with the Stowe tape - it's a more enjoyable listen now. I particularly liked "Take Good Care Of My Baby" and "To Know Her Is To Love Her." P.S. - My $0.02 on the bass drum is to leave it alone. Stripping off reverb allows us to hear more...

Re: ROCKIN' ROXBURGH

There's been a breakthrough! Today I think I've discovered something totally new - I'll call it "De-distortion" until I think of a better name for it. But here is Monkey Business which is one of the most distorted tracks on the set and you could have used the guitar solo to shatter kidney...
