Re: Star Club photos & interesting stuff

Peter talks at length about this in the latest Things We Said Today podcast. I listened to it yesterday (the podcast, that is!). He says he went to Apple and asked for a copy of the tape, and they said "We only have the rights to release it, we don't have the actual tape!" (that in itself...

Re: Star Club photos & interesting stuff

Ah, the cats out of the bag then I see! Yes Peter bought the tapes from Larry earlier this year, hence my remark about knowing they wouldn't end up in a dumpster. I said I knew where the tape was, I didn't say Larry had it. Here's what happened. A few months the back we were discussing the tap...

Re: Star Club photos & interesting stuff

The "Third Reich" lp does not have all the severe tape chewing heard on Lingasong during Where Have You Been and Till There Was You... how and why? That must be from a very, very early copy. I think Hans has mentioned to me in the past that the tape used on "Third Reich" (and po...

Re: Star Club photos & interesting stuff

I think the original may be lost when Grossberg dies. He clearly doesn't believe it has any historical value or interest. The interview in RC showed that he believes his finished mix is the "lemonade" made out of a lemon. So I doubt he will make any provision for its preservation in his w...

Re: Star Club photos & interesting stuff

Ted’s original reel to reel is in the Beatles museum Pete Best brother bought it Really? You mean recently? Do you have any more info about that? That's Ted's original tape machine, NOT the tape. I know where that is. All the talk of baking. It wasn't done in 1973. Nobody had come across Sticky She...

Re: The Beatles And The BBC

I also noticed the Intertel promos didn't look quite right to me, and also sounded a little fast. Maybe it's my eyes and ears.. Always wondered. Were the Intertel videos filmed at 30fps, so they were compatible with US systems? Or even at 24fps so easily transferred to film? (which would account fo...

Re: Now And Then (merged threads)

What are people's initial thoughts on the stereo Love Me Do..?? I wasn't wild about the extra reverb, but then I listened to the original Mono and the Ringo version does have more reverb than the Andy White version and if I sum the stereo to mono then it is quite similar (although slightly dryer vo...

Re: Now And Then (merged threads)

Yes, the reverb would be my only criticism

Really like Now and then though.

Re: Now And Then (merged threads)

Just listening to the Stereo Love Me Do - Nicely done, not making it sound too modern. Not too wide to make it jarring.

Re: Now And Then (merged threads)

I've never really studied the original Demo, i'm not really familiar with the song at all. So the clip of the untouched demo with the "hum" I heard on the doc is interesting. I wouldn't actually call it hum, i'd say it's motor noise from the cassette recorder, something that often plagues ...
