Re: Harry And His Box Set

The material on the transcription discs by the other artists doesn't necessarily come from the same show as The Beatles material. As I've found out recently, some of it's not even from the BBC radio, but lifted from the soundtrack of television broadcasts. It wouldn't be putting The Beatles' perfor...

Re: The Beatles And Harry At The Beeb

These are TV Top Of The Pops has no relation to BBC Radio 2 Audio copies of missing episodes, yes. Just sharing them for people. Audio copies of TV TOTP shows has no practical value, because all TV Top Of the Pops were artist miming to officially released tracks. It's better to listen to official r...

Re: Christmas Saturday Club 1965

I always loved the production on those Shadows hits. It’s worth checking Mixcloud and YouTube for off air recordings of Saturday Club. I have a few including the 10th anniversary edition from 1968 introduced by Keith Skews. Fascinating because it includes a short excerpt from the very first show fr...

Re: Christmas Saturday Club 1965

Mary Anne would have been Paul singing The Shadows 1965 hit rather than The Boston Dexters. IIRC George complimented Hank and Bruce on Mary Anne so the others would have been aware of it too. They were both on EMI, recorded in Studio 2 etc.. The Shadows were the biggest UK band in the pre-Beatles er...

Re: The most exhaustive chronology possible of The Beatles and post-Beatles

Great work Gilles Small correction - entry for December 3 1962 - The Beatles did not appear on Discs A Gogo. I can't give you the page number but this is mentioned in Mark Lewisohn's epic. No reason is known for their non-appearance, it must have been cancelled well ahead of time because the Fabs ar...

Re: David Crosby dead at 81

My favourite Byrd. Loved his rhythm guitar playing, harmony lines (obviously) and among others he wrote Lady Friend, Renaissance Fair, What's Happening, Draft Morning, Why, I See You....still some of my all time favourites by anyone. His first solo LP is a stunning stoner classic with an all star ca...

Re: Beatles Video Holy Grails

Anything new from the early 1962-63 TV appearances would be a holy grail for me. In terms of what we know was taped and could possibly have accidentally survived no matter how unlikely, I'd probably go for the 1965 edition of Thank Your Lucky Stars. Although they were only miming, they did mime (les...
