Nobody can win, however it's done, you can guarantee someone here will say it isn't right or they could have done it better.

Re: The Mamas & The Papas mono albums
What i think is worse than throwing the mono was getting rid of the multi's Yes they'd have probably gone up in smoke in the Universal fire anyway, but there is a chance someone would have gone back and remixed before then. Imagine what you could do with the stage tapes. Oh well!

Re: The Mamas & The Papas mono albums
The original 1st Gen master tapes don;t exist and were thrown by ABC in the 1970's. A mono copy (2nd gen) for the first album was found in an overseas archive (There may have been other albums too but I don't remember those being reported). All the mono single masters are pretty much gone, hence all...

Re: Billy Joel's NEW song "Turn the Lights Back On"
Do we know if Billy Joel's live performances 40-45 years ago sounded similar to the studio versions? As far as I know yes, all the same key. This is just used as a way to make him sound younger - Probably a good thing in many ways as we haven't heard his voice in a studio session for so long. The o...

Re: Billy Joel's NEW song "Turn the Lights Back On"
Clever video. Not seen that before, although I've loved the song since I first heard it. One thing I've never seen commented on is that the single is actually sped up a semitone to give Billy a bit of a younger voice. - Watch the Grammy performance where it's in it's original key.... https://www.you...

I'm sure they'd have tracked Larry down eventually. - Between auction listings and our Record Collector article, it wasn't exactly a state secret who owned the tape.Lord Reith wrote: ↑Tue Nov 21, 2023 9:07 pm If you guys hadn't pursued Larry then who knows what might have become of the tape.

Re: Star Club photos & interesting stuff
I wonder that they did not hand out the tapes to the Beatles as requested in 1998 after the court case! The Beatles sued a company issuing a copy of the Lingasong "restoration". The company did not own the original tape. I wonder who this guy Larry is. I thought George got the tape after ...

Re: Star Club photos & interesting stuff
Well, I think we can all breathe a sigh of relief it is now in safe hands. I think the safety copy is only 7&1/2 ips isn't it, so not ideal and they may have applied filters to it. So I think ideally you'd want a new transfer, and plug any problem bits with the safety copy. I am just so glad th...

He was convinced it was totally unplayable, so not surprising.
